How long are you in town?
Nora asks it more or less on the platform, since arrivals are her speciality and a champagne bar under the ironwork is her opening move. Vanessa asks it in order to slow everything down, preferring one unhurried evening to two rushed ones. Laura asks because her day opens at midday and the same afternoon often works. Tina asks because she is four streets away and can therefore be flexible in a way nobody else on the sheet can.
What do you want the evening to feel like?
Michelle asks it outright and then keeps a table of strangers behaving for four hours. Liana asks it quietly and answers with a bookshop, a long dinner and no clock in the room. Thea asks it on the way to a counter with two stools at it. Rosa asks somewhere between a record shop and the restaurant, and the answer usually adds an hour to the plan.
Nothing at all, and she is in the lobby at eight
Milena decided before she left the house and has no patience for a vague arrangement, which makes her the easiest name on the board at short range. Samanta wants the night agreed by mid afternoon and then keeps to the hour precisely. Cindy simply turns up in daylight, having built her diary around it, and the afternoon runs itself.
Why the longest band is the easiest to book
Fourteen diaries mean one of them is nearly always open, including on the nights when the rest of the board has gone. It also means fewer surprises. These are people who know which room they like, how long they want to be in it and when they intend to be home, so a plan agreed in a message tends to be the plan that happens.
Settled, and what that looks like
A view offered once, without any need to win it. Comfortable with a silence in the middle of dinner, comfortable telling you the film was not very good.
