Meet Samanta

// Notes from the wings
  • 174 cm, slim, always precisely on time
  • Long dark brown hair worn straight, steady brown eyes
  • Late twenties, fluent English, a fourth language in progress
  • Violin daily, design hotels, strong views on lobbies
  • Mayfair home, plans settled by three in the afternoon

Precision is not the same thing as coldness, and Samanta is the argument for it. She is 174 cm, slim, with dark brown hair kept straight past the shoulder blade, and brown eyes that stay steady while she works out what she thinks of you. Late twenties. Her clothes are exact rather than showy: a well cut jacket, a narrow skirt, a single dark colour head to foot, and a watch she actually looks at, because she is the sort of person who arrives at the minute agreed.

Composed is the first impression and magnetic is what happens about twenty minutes in, once she has decided the evening is worth her attention. She is not cold, she is simply not performing. Her English is fluent, and she is working through a fourth language largely out of stubbornness. The violin was a serious childhood and remains a private daily habit. Design hotels are the professional curiosity: she has opinions about lobbies, lighting and where a bar should sit.

Her Holborn evening starts at Scarfes Bar in the Rosewood, where there are bookshelves, a fire in winter and a pianist who is actually worth listening to. She takes the corner sofa if it is free, orders something classic, and is perfectly happy to sit for an hour before dinner is even discussed. Afterwards she likes the courtyard entrance on High Holborn at night, which she maintains is the most underrated arrival in London.

Mayfair is home, fifteen minutes west of Holborn at that time of evening. Settle the plan with booking before three in the afternoon and the evening will run exactly as written, to the minute.

Her home stage is Mayfair, and she travels from there to the venues this house covers. Her full listing sits with the rest of the company on the companions page.

What an evening costs

She likes an evening agreed by mid afternoon rather than assembled at seven, and she keeps to the hour exactly. Her usual booking runs four hours, £900, and a plan agreed before three leaves her time to confirm the table.

Each length on the ladder, the travel rule and the terms for a change of plan are set out line by line on the rates page, and the wording to send sits on the booking page.

04 Scene

An evening with Samanta

Seven o'clock exactly, and she is already in the corner of the bar with her coat folded beside her rather than handed to anybody. The first drink is slow and the conversation starts somewhere specific, usually a question about your work that is more interesting than the ones you get asked at dinner parties.

She does not fill gaps, which means the ones that do happen are comfortable. Dinner is booked but flexible by half an hour either way, because she would rather finish a conversation than keep a reservation. By the end of the evening she is noticeably warmer than she was at the start, and she will tell you so herself, which is somehow the most disarming thing about her.

// Asked backstage

Samanta, in her words

Because an evening improvised at seven is somebody else's idea of spontaneity. Decide by three and the night belongs to us rather than to the traffic.

Every morning for half an hour, with a mute on, badly enough that nobody would pay to hear it. It orders the rest of the day.

The one that is winning at the moment. I am stubborn rather than gifted, which gets a person further than you would think.

Samanta, in the book

Samanta is on call today. Dinners, with the plan settled by three Message the desk and we will confirm the hour before anything is held.

// Nothing pinned here yet

No moderated note has been left for Samanta on this site so far. We publish first names, the month and the words themselves, we never invent a line, and we never print anything a companion would rather keep private. When guests do write in, their notes appear here exactly as they arrived.
