Meet Violetta

// Notes from the wings
  • 178 cm, tall and slender, the tallest on this list
  • Sleek black hair worn straight, unreadable brown eyes
  • Thirty, precise quiet English, extremely dry
  • Early swimming, small comedy rooms, second hand bookshops
  • Belgravia home, abroad until 2 October

She is the tallest woman on this list and has been since school, which she says stopped being a problem at about nineteen. Violetta stands 178 cm, slender with it, her black hair sleek and straight past the shoulder, her brown eyes giving almost nothing away until she has decided to be funny. Thirty. She dresses long and clean: a column coat, a narrow trouser, flat shoes as often as heels, and absolutely nothing that competes with the height she already has.

Mysterious is what people write about her and dry is what they actually mean. She says little for the first half hour and then produces something so deadpan that it takes a second to land. Her English is precise and quiet. Swimming is the daily discipline, early and unglamorous. Stand up comedy is the genuine enthusiasm, the small rooms rather than the arenas. Bookshops are where she loses afternoons, and she reads a great deal more than she ever mentions.

Her evening belongs to the long stretch of Charing Cross Road, where Foyles still runs over several floors and the second hand dealers hang on either side of it. She will spend forty minutes in there without apologising for any of them, buy two things, and then want dinner somewhere with low light and a short menu. Afterwards, if something is on in one of the rooms above a pub nearby, she will suggest it.

Belgravia is home. She is away until the second of October, after which evenings around Tottenham Court Road reopen. Ask booking to hold a date for the week she lands and it will be kept for you.

Her home stage is Belgravia, and she travels from there to the venues this house covers. Her full listing sits with the rest of the company on the companions page.

What an evening costs

She lands on 2 October, and the first evenings after that are open to be pencilled in now. Three hours at £700 covers the bookshops, dinner and whatever follows. October dates are being written in now, overnights included, in the order the messages arrive.

Each length on the ladder, the travel rule and the terms for a change of plan are set out line by line on the rates page, and the wording to send sits on the booking page.

An evening with Violetta

She will want to be collected at seven and taken more or less straight to the books, which is not most people's idea of an opening move. Forty minutes of quiet browsing, during which she will hand you something without comment, and then she buys whatever she has been carrying around for the last twenty of them.

Dinner is where the dryness comes out properly, usually somewhere with low light and a menu short enough to read twice. She is very good at the long pause before a punchline. If there is a comedy room above a pub within walking distance she will check what is on, and she prefers the nights where half the material is new and clearly not working yet.

// Asked backstage

Violetta, in her words

Somewhere warm with a pool I can get to before anyone else is awake. I will be back on the second and in a good mood about it.

Because you can watch someone fail in real time and recover. That is far more interesting than a polished hour in a large theatre.

Two things I did not go in for. That is how it always goes, and it is why my flat has a shelf problem I refuse to address.

Violetta, in the book

Violetta is away from the board until 2 October 2026. Abroad, evenings reopen from 2 October Ask us who is carrying a pass tonight and we will name three who suit the same evening.

// Nothing pinned here yet

No moderated note has been left for Violetta on this site so far. We publish first names, the month and the words themselves, we never invent a line, and we never print anything a companion would rather keep private. When guests do write in, their notes appear here exactly as they arrived.
